When BMS began in 1994, of importance to the founders was to provide a source of advice that was completely independent of any remedial works or “extra” services that may, or may not, be required.
This was so that clients could feel confident that they receive (and are being seen to receive) unbiased recommendations without a conflict of interest.
More than 30 years later, and working UK-wide, we remain proud of our high standards and maintain this approach.

Alistair is a qualified mechanical engineer and has 35 years’ experience in the HVAC sector. Prior to joining BMS he was involved with the design and manufacture of heating and air conditioning systems for commercial buildings. With a detailed understanding of water and air systems, Alistair joined a fledgling BMS in 1999 and since then has helped grow the company into a major player in the legionella industry. As Managing Director his role is to ensure continued high-quality output and customer service whilst maintaining target profitability and high staff satisfaction. He is responsible for high level strategic decision making, management of senior staff and is the main contact for key accounts.
Phil joined BMS in 2007 with extensive hands-on technical expertise in Legionella control and indoor air quality monitoring. With now over 25 years of industry experience, Phil’s senior management role is focused on business development and account management, working with a diverse client base, including schools, housing associations and commercial / residential managing agents, overseeing large multi-site portfolios with significant experience delivering tailored training, aligned to clients’ roles and responsibilities.
Peter is a degree qualified member of the water management society and has over 25 years’ experience working in the Environmental sector.
Prior to joining BMS in 2010, Peter has held roles focused on asbestos, occupational hygiene and legionella management. Peter has worked for a scientific laboratory, UKAS accredited environmental consultancies and a global engineering consultant, working on various international projects.
Peter’s current role as Technical Manager is to oversee all technical aspects related to our service offerings.
Responsible for management of internal quality and health and safety audits, including maintenance of LCA membership. Quality Manager with responsibility for maintaining ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001 accreditations, along with other contractor approval schemes such as CHAS, Safe Contractor and Constructionline. Peter is a regular attendee at key LCA, Water Management Society and industry events, to help keep us at the forefront of sector best practice.
Daniel has over 25 years of experience in the building services and facilities management sector. He joined Building Monitoring Services (BMS) in 2006 as a member of the administration team and progressed within the company to become Service Support Manager in 2017. During this time he also achieved a Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Manager certification.
In his role, Daniel oversees the efficient processing of our Consultants’ reports and ensures that they are delivered to a consistently high standard, providing clients with accurate and timely information. His focus on quality and organisation helps maintain smooth workflows and reliable service delivery.
Prior to joining BMS, Daniel began his career with a company coordinating the installation of promotional signage, before spending eight years with a lighting maintenance company. This varied experience has given him strong operational insight across the sector.
Known for his calm, practical, and solutions-focused approach, Daniel works closely with all departments within BMS to help ensure clients receive dependable, high-quality service.
Richard has 22 years experience working in the building services and facilities management sector. After graduating with a Masters degree in Environmental Science from Southampton University Richard spent time working in contaminated land and asbestos surveying where he started developing his knowledge of the built environment. In 2009 Richard made the change to working in the water hygiene sector joining a Legionella risk assessing consultancy where he gained experience as a consultant before developing to run the team in the Southern office. Richard joined Building Monitoring Services (BMS) in 2015 as an office based consultant providing technical advice and ensuring quality of Legionella risk assessment reports. In 2017 Richard took on the role of Field Service Manager to run the field based team of consultants, in preparation for this role Richard attended specific management training and achieved a Chartered Management Institute (CMI ) Level 3 Certificate and Diploma.
In his role Richard is responsible for a remote team of consultants undertaking water monitoring, indoor air quality monitoring, closed systems monitoring and Legionella risk assessments. Richard is responsible for the organisation and planning of work, training and quality of the final product sent out to clients. The role of service manager is central to the efficient running of BMS and requires coordination with all members of the team along with clients. In his time running the field team Richard has overseen ongoing growth at BMS and a drive for maintaining quality and efficiency.
